Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu joins BJP ahead of Lok Sabha elections

Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu made headlines on Tuesday as he announced his switch to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, the Ludhiana MP expressed admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, emphasizing their commitment to Punjab's development. Bittu highlighted their positive response to his concerns regarding Punjab's progress, stating, "In the last 10 years, I have seen that PM Modi and Amit Shah have immense love for Punjab."

Recalling the historical context of terrorism in Punjab, Bittu commended the BJP and RSS for their efforts in fostering peace in the state. His move to the BJP was welcomed by party officials, with BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde expressing confidence that Bittu's inclusion will bolster the party's position. Bittu, who hails from a prominent political lineage as the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh and son of former Punjab Minister Tej Parkash Singh, had been a member of the Punjab unit's Pradesh Election Committee. His decision to join the BJP coincided with the party's announcement of contesting the Lok Sabha elections independently in Punjab, as stated by Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar in a video message.
